Comparing a human to an animal doesn't mean that it is being compared to a Slug, a muddy boar or a chicken. It could be something (like most mascots are) like a cheetah, a lion, a tiger, or even an eagle. All of these animals show as much pride and have as much respect as a Native American mascot has.
People agree that it is NOT racist to have a Native American as their mascot.
San Diego State University’s (SDSU) Aztecs mascot is being called racist because they claim it is “misguided”. In October they took a vote, 95% of students agreed that it was in fact not racist for the Aztecs to have a Native American as a mascot. Having a Native American as a mascot is not racist because it is meant to show pride, strength and honor. It is not meant to show any negative stereotypes towards the Native American.
