PEOPLE SAY,
Native American Mascots are an insult
BUT,
I say, it is not a insult
BECUASE,
When the Native American mascots were created they were not created as an insult to Native Americans the were created to honor them. They don’t stereotype them, or call them mean words. They state that they are embrace: Bravery, respect, courteousness, perseverance, wisdom, strength, etc.
THEREFORE,
It is not a insult
Ya, Notice anything in common with all these things? Teams choose nicknames of things that they respect. Things that exhibit the traits that they want their athletic programs to embrace: Bravery, respect, courageousness, perseverance, wisdom, etc. So they are showing pride to native Americans
I think that Native American mascots honor and respect our history, so that's a good thing. If we banned Native American mascots it would be just another step towards forgetting our own history.
