Yes that is well said. We should look at the real meaning of these mascots not the dictionary definition.

2 points

How are they comparing them to that? Anyway how would you know? And yea they are showing pride to them? Anyway how would they know why we would put them as our mascot. If we did not appreciate them then we would not honor it.

1 point

How is it considered racist? We are representing them? How is it offensive? People should not see it offensive when they dont know the reasons we chose that culture.

1 point

Yup totally agree. We love having many different cultures as our mascots, it shows how diverse we are and how appreciative we are. Also that we are aware of the past and honor it and cherish it.

1 point

Well how do they know that we are actually thinking of them as "bad''. We are trying to represent them not be racist. Even if they are offended it just shows how weak they are. If you show that you are strong then you are representing your culture.

1 point

How is bringing pride to there culture being racist? Having them as our culture is like giving them a medal of appreciation.

1 point

Yea, if we banned cultures as our mascots then we would be telling everybody that obviously that we dont care or that we dont want to raise them up. We want to keep them to show our respect to the past.

1 point

Why would she run off the field? I would stand there and do the best routine possible. Because you are representing peoples culture and should be proud.

3 points

They are showing pride because they are representing them to the world. If they did not have the mascots then people would not have respect or pride in the people in that culture.

1 point

Exactly earned on battle. They obviously won and they should be proud of winning. Lives were taken for there freedom. The people that passed probably are proud that they died for fighting for there country.

1 point

Wouldnt you leave it on? It represents your culture and shows you are proud of your culture. It also shows that you are a strong person and can stand up for themselves. Why not be proud of representing your culture?

1 point

But also having a animal as a mascot makes it affensive too. Animals have feelings to not just people. Show respect.

2 points

Wouldnt they find it appreciative to have people advertise your culture. Because having a culture as a mascot is like showing the world what that culture believes in and or does in that culture.

3 points

If we took away cultures as mascots what would we have as mascots? We take pride in having cultures as our mascot. I think it would be fun in having a cultue as our mascot. If people were Native American then i would be proud to know that someone cares for my culture.

3 points

Most schools try to show respect to cultures and they take it offensivley. If we really want to make it offensive then we would. But we honor different cultures. Also some mascots that are animals are very offensive to animals.

2 points

If we took away Native Americans as a mascot then people would think we are trying to hide the past. Nobody would know about them.

3 points

If we forgot our history then we would not know other cultures then we would be empty minded on what to put as our mascot. All of the mascots would probably be really cheesy if we did not know other cultures.

2 points

School Mascots should stay the same because they show respect, honor, and give Americans a sense of culture. If we did not have a sense of culture then we would be lost because we would not know what other places believed in or did as a person. I say that because temas are actually willing to take the time to fight for old traditions.People say that mascots offend people that are that culture and is disrespectful. But we actually honor that culture and are happy to have their culture as our mascot.
